OHMS is proud to be hosting a special screening of Daughters, a documentary distributed by Netflix and co-directed by Angela Patton (P '22), who is an alumna parent, former OHMS board member, and CEO of local powerhouse organization Girls For a Change.
A moving portrait of empathy and forgiveness, Daughters is the result of an eight-year documentary journey by filmmaker Natalie Rae and social change advocate Angela Patton. The film intimately follows four extraordinary young girls—Aubrey, Santana, Raziah, and Ja’Ana—as they prepare for a Daddy Daughter Dance with their incarcerated fathers. These girls speak candidly about their dreams, aspirations, and the emotional toll of their fathers’ absence. Daughters shines a light on the complexities of familial bonds strained by the barriers of the criminal justice system and underscores the importance of healing within the family unit.
The screening will be accompanied by a discussion with Angela Patton, facilitated by Adrienne Cole Johnson, local advocate and Chief of Family and Community Engagement for Henrico County Public Schools.
More details, including how to RSVP, forthcoming.
