an Authentic Relationship
On Friday, February 6, 2009, Orchard House School is delighted to host Balancing the Father Daughter Relationship with Dr. JoAnn Deak. This event brings together fathers and father figures with their daughters for an evening of interaction and conversation.
About the Evening
Why is this event important?
Research is clearly pointing to the important role of fathers in the development of a child's gender identity, social skills, self-esteem, and intelligence. Dads have an extraordinary impact on daughters.
Dr. Deak's experience and candor create an atmosphere of trust and openness. She will address many points of interest such as:
- Why one word from a dad equals 100 from a mother;
- How a dad's relationship to his daughter impacts her later relationships with males;
- Why overprotection is one of the biggest problems most girls face.
The Night's Activities:
- Introduction to the Evening with Dr. JoAnn Deak
- Interactive project
- Dinner generously donated by Chipolte
- Q&A - Daughters anonymously contribute questions and comments to be addressed by Dr. Deak
- Dads Only! - time just for the dads with Dr. Deak while the daughters enjoy another activity
About Dr. JoAnn Deak
International expert, Dr. JoAnn Deak is a developmental psychologist specializing in gender specific research. She is the author of Girls Will Be Girls and How Girls Thrive. Dr. Deak will spend time facilitating anonymous questions from the daughters, then break out with just the fathers for an informational session about current issues.
